I’m going to be camping at utica and union and on one video it shows bear activity. And I really need to know how active the bears are in that area to know whether or not to bring a bear cannister. Also will the bears break into your car like they do in yosemite. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Did you bear proof your food and did you bring a cooler?
@LoveRise. Lots of people camp around both Lakes. I have not camped there, nor have I ever seen any bear activity myself, but I think you have to assume they are there. Some people avoid the issue by camping on one of the islands. If you are not on an island, I would say a bear cannister is reasonable. Have a great time. Carl
LoveRise, try the bigtreestech website and ask there if someone has bear experience at Lake Union/Utica. BTW, Union is stocked with fish. Utica is not. Carl
@carlshome1 Thanks carl for your prompt reply. The video I saw on youtube was where someone was camping on island. I was hoping to go for 2 weeks by keeping my provisions in my car and restocking a week later. Yet if bears are an issue in utica or union they might be breaking into cars. I’m hoping someone who has camped there will weigh in on bear activity. Warmly, Laurie (who is deciding on her camping gear as we speak)
such a sweet video. great pace too.
Amen…to fun and love! Thanks for sharing your exploration!

Real nice video! How lucky to have such a great place to paddle, especially with someone special.

Paddle out to an island and roll a fat one and don’t worry about the Bears
