This is how you advertise for a city. Never, ever, EVER wanted to visit Buffalo before this but I may just after this!

  2. dell177 on January 12, 2022 at 6:42 pm

Boston went through the same destruction with urban renewal. I was going to high school when they were tearing the west end down and parts of the south end looked like they had been carpet bombed. The city is coming back but the new buildings are glass curtained nothings that pale before what was torn down in the 50’s and 60’s.

Progress is being made but it;s slow.

buffalo’s streets are actually designed really well, even in fairly heavy traffic it never takes too long to get anywhere.

This was so inspiring and the enthusiasm and love for their city just radiates from these civic leaders and citizens. Buffalo looks beautiful, I knew about the architecture but I had no idea of its radial-style planning and how much Olmstead contributed. In Toronto, we too drank the Kool-Aid of Mr Moses, though luckily we had Jane Jacobs to lead a successful fight against one freeway. But we stuck a monstrosity of a Expressway, the Gardiner, now a crumbling wreck and always an eyesore, right in front of beautiful Lake Ontario. Congratulations on the work you’ve done and it goes to show when the real owners of a city, its citizens, band together, you can make your city liveable again. I can’t wait to visit! ❤

Erie County is going to fail as soon as the housing market pulls back. Most local government are ponzi schemes that only work as long as new development is continuing. When developers build a new housing area, they pay the costs for the roads and sewage infrastructure. After they hand it off to the government, the revenue losses are inbound because it costs more to maintain roads and infrastructure that what can be collected in taxes from those home owners. A ponzi scheme only works when you can use the money from new investors (development) to pay the old investors (old housing areas).

Erie County has been doing this for a LOOOOOOONG time and it is going to blow up in their faces. The two political parties will blame each other or something else, but in the end property owners are going to get shafted. All those people who overpaid for their homes during this housing boom are about to get nailed HARD!

Buffalo looks wonderful here. To bad They pump all the money downtown and the park district thru north buffalo and leave the rest of the city to flounder. Buffalo in a whole is in shambles. Anyone whom lives here will tell you that. Unless that is you live in the north park elmwood strip area. Or one of those new "Affordable apartments" They built out of the old brick buildings and factories along the waterfront. Rent only starts at 1500 for a loft. Keep them pockets lined put on a facade for a failing city. Poverty, Crime, Drugs, gangs, and overall despair run ramped thru Buffalo. We have a police dept who’s hands are tied and frustrated beyond. Top that of with a HUUUGE influx of foreign immigration in the last 5 years to a city that is not capable in size, economy nor governmental awareness to handle the situation. You know hey Byron’s doing great, just has to win a write in ballot this time to keep his reign against a devout communist socialist Thats where we are now but hey were so progressive and woke now . Its a sad affair all around sure we have the waterfront yes we have great architecture but that does not help the people. Keep them big pockets lined appease the heads Keep a ” progressive" look and screw the rest of the city and the people. Allot of that pocket lining would have done great on the east side, the west side, south buffalo you know where the majority of buffalo’s hurting people live. The communities that need it the most. We got our food trucks and pretty buildings though that should keep our economy going nevermind all the closing fleeing buisneses and ramped decay. I hope it gets to the glory this video depicts one day..!!

Hearing just the name “Buffalo” brings anger, rage and hatred inside of me, even to this day.

Let’s go back about 40 years in time. I lived in Virginia and worked in Washington, DC.
As a hobby, I got into photography and thought I would drive up to Niagara falls to take some pictures, especially night shots.

I arrive in the Buffalo area and thought I would stop to get some snacks, soda’s, etc. so I exit the freeway and look for a store which I found easily.
Next to the store was one of those old photo booths where you drop your film off and they process it. Maybe some of you remember those.
Anyway, I park next to it and look through the window to see what kind of film they had and wrote down their hours of operation. I figured they were a chain and the hours would be the same for all of them.

I leave and go into the store/market and get some snacks, etc and head back out to my vehicle. The next thing I know, the police stop me in the parking lot with their lights flashing. HUH?? Is it against the law to buy snacks??

With guns drawn, I am ordered out of my vehicle and told to get on my knees. What is going on, I kept asking myself. While one cop held me at gun point the other opened the car doors and went through my car dropping my expensive camera equipment on the ground. I jumped up and said “What the hell are you doing?”
With that came a baton to the back of my head and I fell to the ground and then I was lifted back up handcuffed and told I was under arrest. I asked for what but was just shoved into the back of their police car and taken away.
I think I was taken around downtown Buffalo.

I am taken into the station where they take my information and start going through my pockets. Here comes a good part!! While going through my pockets they magically find a fire cracker. Come on! A fire cracker?? They could have “magically” found something better than that. How about cocaine, marijuana, etc. A fire cracker?? You have got to be kidding me. Without a doubt the cop palmed it and pretended he found it in my pocket.
Right then I knew I was screwed and just shook my head as I was led to a jail cell.

The next day, I stand before a judge and explain everything. Luckily, I was let go.
But the fun begins trying to find my vehicle. Where is it? Where was it when I was arrested? It was hell, but I found it and my heart sank when I saw it.
Yep, radio gone. My suitcase with my clothes, gone. Whatever camera equipment was left, gone! They even took my Virginia license plates!! I felt like crying.

I go into the store and buy some paper and a pen then write my license plate number on the paper and put it in the back window. In the back of my mind, I know, I am going to get stopped heading back to Virginia and out of hell with no license plates. Which I did a couple of times and I explained what happened. Luckily, I made it back home with memories of that evil town which, even to this day, I pray that the entire city burn in hell.
If you ever go to Buffalo, enter at your own risk!!

  38. RonaldeRobinson on January 12, 2022 at 7:22 pm

If all this is true—and you can make that case—why have hundreds of thousands fled Buffalo?

The answers are obvious: high taxes, over-regulation, too much crime, corrupt politicians, and too many mistakes by government.

I’m falling in love with this city. I worked for 30 years in Philly but moved back to Long Island, NY a few years ago to help care take for my elderly parents. But Long Island isn’t for me. But Buffalo looks just perfect!
